Abstract

1475286 Axial flow fans ROLLS-ROYCE (1971) Ltd 13 Sept 1974 [22 Sept 1973] 44559/73 Heading F1C [Also in Division F2] A thrust bearing assembly for a variable pitch fan rotor blade 12 comprises an annular bearing race 26 and a container 24 filled with flowable material separated from the race by a thrust plate 25, distortion in the rotor disc 21 being accommodated by deformation of the container and migration of the flowable material whereby an even distribution of load in the race is obtained. The flowable material may consist of hardened steel balls or a viscous liquid such as oil or grease, and the bearing can be of ball, roller or needle roller type.
