Abstract

1475285 Heating buildings DRG PACKAGING Ltd 6 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 43042/73 Heading F4S [Also in Division E1] A radiant space heater comprises a heating element 6 arranged in heat transfer relationship with a heat radiating panel 2 made from glass fibre reinforced cementitious material. The heating element is backed by a resilient layer 8 of glass fibre wadding and a layer of aluminium foil (not shown); at the back of the heater is a panel 10 of asbestos sheet or glass fibre reinforced cementitious material. As shown the heater is in the form of a wall mounted panel assembled in an aluminium channel frame 12. Alternatively the radiant heater may be shaped so as to be embodied in floor skirting of a building (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) or may be adapted to provide a concave (Fig. 6) or convex (Fig. 7) cornice between the walls and ceiling of a room. The heating element 6 may be an electric element, namely a printed circuit formed by the deposition of a metallic film, e.g. copper, on a plastics sheet substrate, or may comprise hot water or hot oil ducts (not shown). In addition to its heat radiating surface, which may be formed with ribs (4, Fig. 3), the heater may also be provided with heat convecting passages for air heated by the element 6.
