Abstract

1475072 Mo-containing steel BRITISH STEEL CORP 20 Aug 1974 [20 Aug 1973] 39235/73 Headings C7A and C7M [Also in Division B3] Steel, suitable for use as the consumable electrode in a welding process comprises C 0À15 max. Mn 0À5-1À5 Si 0À03-0À10 Mo 0À2-0À6 Al 0.05 max. Ti 0À03-0À05 B 0À002-0À008 S 0.04 max. P 0.04 max. with the balance being iron and incidental impurities. The use of rod or wire of this composition, optionally coated with copper to enhance electrical contact, in welding, e.g. submerged arc or electro-slag, preferably in conjunction with basic fluxes which give cleaner welds with lower S, P and residual oxygen contents, significantly improves the notch toughness levels in both the stress relieved and normalized conditions over consumables currently in use. The flux composition used in submerged arc welding was SiO 2 13À7 MnO 0À1 Fe 2 O 3 1À29 Al 2 O 3 19À6 CaO 12À58 MgO 29À0 T 1 O 2 0À5 K 2 O 0À76 Ma 2 O 0À42 CaF 18À0 LiO 2 0À32 Zr 2 O 3 1À58
