Abstract

147,506. Sheffler, I. L. Dec. 4, 1916, [Convention date]. Carpet-sweepers.-A rotary brush in the nozzle of a vacuum-cleaner is driven through a flexible shaft and gearing from the motor; an air duct below the motor leads the dusty air from the nozzle beyond the motor to the fan &c. In the cleaner shown, the motor is contained in a compartment A<1> of the casing, and is mounted on a horizontal shaft which also carries the fan L and is connected through a flexible shaft H with a gear wheel G which drives the brush through a wheel F on its shaft; the gear wheels are encased. The air passes from the nozzle through a passage I below the motor to the fan and a dust-bag N. A scraper L<1> maintains the fan shaft and blades clear of threads &c.
