1475053 Flame-proofed regenerated cellulose SANDOZ Ltd 14 Feb 1975 [18 Feb 1974 20 June 1974] 6331/75 Heading C3F Regenerated cellulose contains a flameproofing agent of formula wherein Y is oxygen or sulphur, R 1 and R 2 are each, independently (A) in which R 4 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl and R 5 is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, benzyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by 1 Br atom, 1 to 3 Cl atoms, 1 to 3 C 1 -C 4 alkyl and/or 1-3 C 1 -C 4 alkoxy groups, there being 1 to 3 substituent groups and up to 4 carbon atoms in the aggregate of the substituents; alternatively R 4 can be taken with R 5 and the attached nitrogen atom to form a 5- or 6-membered saturated heterocycle containing 1 or 2 heteroatoms. R 3 is either a group A (see above) in which R 4 and R 5 are as defined above, or a group in which R 7 and R 8 are each independently A, or R 7 and R 8 together form a group (B) in which each Z is independently hydrogen or C 1 -C 3 alkyl, and R6 can be either in which R 9 is C 2 -C 10 alkylene or phenylene, or a group There are certain provisos which limit the range of compounds. These are: (a) when R 4 and R 8 together from the group B (see above), then the Y on the phosphorus atom to which this is bound is sulphur; (b) when any R 5 is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, then Y on the phosphorus atom linked directly to it is sulphur; and (c) when any R 4 is C 3 or C 4 alkyl, then R 5 on the same nitrogen is alkyl. Additional compounds of formula in which Y is O or S, R 10 is cyclohexyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl and R 20 substituted amino, may also be present. The compound(s) are mixed with unregenerated cellulose which is then regenerated. In the examples the unregenerated cellulose is in the form of viscose.
