Abstract
1475009 Extra fuel for starting and warming up FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 20 Dec 1974 [4 Jan 1974] 55305/74 Heading F1H The subject matter of the present Specification is the same as that of Specification 1475008 except for the means for providing extra fuel for starting and warming up, with which the claims of the present invention are concerned. In a carburetter, a fast idle cam 236, Figs. 12 and 14, is provided with two series of steps 250, 252, the former series being used except during starting and the latter being used only during starting to ensure that throttle plate 25, Fig. 12, which co-operates with the cam via lever 272 rigid with throttle shaft 24, screw 268, end 264 of lever 266 and plunger 254, is wider open than at the same temperature during running of the engine. The cam 236 is movable axially by being mounted on a sleeve 238 that is axially slidable on sleeve 220 in response to engine intake manifold vacuum applied to a chamber 310 to bring the series of steps 250 into line with the plunger 254 when the engine has started. The effect of vacuum in chamber 310 is transmitted to the sleeve 238 by plunger 314 and lever 288, which is moved from its broken line position to its full line position. As the engine warms up, bi-metal spring 322 rotates lever 228 which allows the fast idle cam to be rotated by gravity in an anticlockwise direction in Fig. 12 as leg portion 230 of lever 228 moves anti-clockwise, so that the plunger 254 no longer engages the series of steps on the cam and the throttle plate is able to reach its most nearly closed position. The lever 228 also rotates shaft 218 and thereby lever 216 to lift needle valve (72) and lower needle valve (140) Fig. 6 (not shown) which act as in Specification 1475008.
