Abstract

1474697 Joining tubular structural members DESIGN ANIMATION Ltd 29 Jan 1975 [30 Oct 1973] 50326/73 Heading F2M Tubular structural members 1, 2 of rectangular cross-section, and a third similar tubular member (not shown), are joined at the corner of a three-dimensional framework by a device comprising three spigots 5, 6, 7, which extend at right angles to each other from a common junction at which mitred inner ends of spigots 5 and 6 are secured together in abutment and the inner end of spigot 7 is secured in a position butting up against the mitre, each spigot being of U-section to fit within a respective one of the tubular members and having an expander assembly consisting of an inner channel 9, having a spacer 10, and cutouts 12 in its flanges for receiving threaded expander elements. The latter comprise a square or polygonal nut 14, having corner lugs 16 to grip the tubular member, and a screw 17 engaged with a threaded bore of the nut and rotatable from the exterior of the tubular member by an Allen key engaging a socket 18 via an aperture 19 in the member.
