1474557 Fire-resistant synthetic resin compositions T ISHIKAWA 25 April 1974 [25 April 1973 8 May 1973 16 May 1973] 18256/74 Headings C3C C3P and C3R A heat- or fire-resistant material comprises a synthetic resin having dispersed therein (a) a water-of-crystallization-containing salt of boric or silicic acid other than an Al-containing silicate, and (b) a naturally-occurring Alcontaining mineral other than alumina or its trihydrate. (a) may be K, Na, Cu, Pb, or Zn borate, or K, Na, Ca, Cu, or Zn silicate. (b) may be vermiculite, sericite, kaolin, agalmatolite mica, obsidian or "Perlite" (Registered Trade Mark). Also present may be phosphoric acid or a phosphate of Na, K, NH 4 , Ca, Mg, or Al; or Portland cement or plaster. The resin may be polyvinyl alcohol or acetate, an acrylic resin, polystyrene, polyethylene, polyamide, polyurethane, or a melamine, urea, phenolic, epoxy, or silicone resin, optionally as a foam. In an example, polyethylene, "Perlite" (a volcanic glass), phosphoric acid, ammonium chromate, and borax are mixed and then heated in a mould at 300‹ C. to cause it to foam and annealed.
