Abstract

1474452 Corona charging apparatus XEROX CORP 17 Sept 1974 [24 Sept 1973] 40525/74 Heading H1X A corona generating device comprises a corona wire 46, a generally U-shaped shield 44 around the corona wire, a cleaning pad 48 in contact with the corona wire and adapted to be moved along the wire to clean the same, and means responsive to an electical input signal for moving the pad along the corona wire. As shown the said means comprise an electric motor 52 driving a double helixs crew 54 carrying a follower 56 connected to the pad 48 which also cleans the inner surface 50 of the shield 44. Three of the corona devices are incorporated in an electorstatic printing machine (Fig. 1, not shown). When the follower 56 is at the left-hand end of the screw 54 it engages a roller 58 to open a switch 60. On the occurrence of a predetermined machine event, e.g. the end of a copy run, a signal from the machine logic 62 actuates a machine memory timeout 64 to effect various shutdown operations within the machine and also operates a relay 66 to close a switch 51 and start the motor 52. The follower 56 moves from the end position to close switch 60 so that the motor is driven until the follower again opens switch 60 at the end of a cleaning cycle which may comprise one or several double traverses by the pad 48.
