Abstract

1474361 Milling cutters; inserts SANDCO Ltd 23 Jan 1976 [23 Jan 1975] 02756/76 Headings B3B and B3K A reversible cutting insert for use in a milling cutter comprises a polygonal flat plate 10, the top and bottom surfaces 11 and 12 intersect with edge surfaces 13 and 14 of equal length to define main cutting edges 15 and 16, two further edge surfaces 21 and 22 adjoining said edge surfaces at cutting corners 19 and 20 the further edge surfaces intersecting the top and bottom surfaces 11, 12 at an acute angle to define therewith secondary cutting edges 23 and 24, at least one rear support surface 17 being provided which extends in a direction transverse to the bisector of the angle between the two edge surfaces 13 and 14. The inserts are mounted in peripheral recesses in a support ring 32 in the cutter body 29 by way of wedges 35 actuated by spring loaded rod 34.
