Abstract

1473661 Surface wave devices MICROWAVE & ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS Ltd 12 July 1974 [30 April 1973] 20507/73 Heading H3U A surface wave device comprises an output transducer 23 between two parallel-connected input transducers 21, 22 on a substrate 1, the inter-transducer distances being such that bulk waves arriving at transducer 23 cancel and surface waves would cancel but for the provision of means 25 which introduces an additional phase change of (2n+1)# radians along one of the surface wave paths at a selected frequency, so that the surface waves at that frequency from transducers 21, 22 arrive at transducer 23 in phase. As described, means 25 comprises a layer of aluminium, gold or lead glass on or closely adjacent to the surface of substrate 1. Wave reflections may be reduced by inclining the transverse edges of the layer, and the bottom surface of the substrate may be roughened to absorb bulk waves. Various transducer configurations are discussed in connection with Fig. 2 (not shown) and transducer 23 may have a different response from transducers 21, 22.
