Abstract
1473251 Cable filling compositions DOW CHEMICAL CO 9 May 1975 [10 May 1974 (2)] 19676/75 Heading C3P [Also in Division H1] Compositions for filling electrical cables comprising a melt blend of (1) a major proportion of a low density polyethylene A having a melt flow rate of 5 to 140 dg/min. by ASTM D-1238- 70 at 50‹ C. and 2160 gm. load using a 0À5 mm. die orifice and (2) a minor proportion of a low density polyethylene B having a melt flow rate of 0À2 to 250 dg/min. by ASTM D-1238-70 at 190‹ C. and 2160 gm. load using a 2À1 mm. die orifice, the blend having a melt flow rate of 0À1 to 25 dg/min. by ASTM D-1238-70 at 50‹ C. and 2160 gm. load using a 0À5 mm. die orifice, may be prepared by melt blending the polymers and cooling the blend from above the melting point to a temperature below 90‹ C. in less than 30 minutes. The compositions may also contain phenolic antioxidants, silica or hollow spherical thermoplastics particles.
