Abstract

1472993 Laminated gasket FEDERALMOGUL CORP 26 April 1974 [8 May 1973] 18503/74 Heading B5N A gasket for mounting between the carburetter and the engine manifold in an automobile and having a through passage comprises a thick moulded core of heat-insulating resin having opposed flat surfaces each having a thin resilient gasket sheet heat-bonded thereto by a separate thermosetting adhesive, the flat surfaces and gasket sheets surrounding said passage. The core may be of filled phenolformaldehyde resin or of silicone, alkyd or poly-(amide-imide) resin. The sheets may be of nitrile, styrene or polychloroprene rubber blended with asbestos and the adhesive may be a nitrile rubber/phenol-formaldehyde resin blend. Typical thicknesses are: core 0À204-0À206 inch; sheets 0À014-0À017 inch. The core may be shaped to provide a central thicker portion around the through passage, thickened portions around bolt openings and a thinner fin projecting from the main body of the core for dissipating or deflecting heat. The flat surfaces may be only partly covered by the gasket sheets. Specification 1,472,994 is referred to.
