Abstract
1472990 Cooling gas turbine blades GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 19 July 1974 [2 Aug 1973] 32124/74 Heading FIT A gas turbine blade 10 has an aerofoil shaped core 12 integral with a platform 18 and a dovetailed root 13, grooves 17, 19 in the upper surface of the platform 18 and in the surfaces of the aerofoil shaped core 12 respectively, being covered by a skin material, e.g. sheet metal, brazed thereto to define cooling grooves exhausting from manifolds 22 via an aperture 36, and fed via holes 34 passing through the platform. The holes communicate with gutters 33 themselves fed from reservoirs 29 over the full length of the cylindrical surfaces defined by projections 32 on the underside at the platform extending parallel to the dove-tail root formation. Jets (24), Fig. 1 (not shown), spray liquid coolant. into gutters 26 in axial root-retaining rings 27 in communication with the ends of the reservoirs 29. The cooling grooves 19 may be disposed in a convoluted or spiral configuration.
