Abstract

1437618 Bladed rotor assemblies - liquid cooling GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 16 Aug 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 38823/73 Heading F1T The invention relates to a liquid cooled bladed rotor assembly such as a turbine rotor of a gas turbine engine, the rotor having blades mounted thereon which are formed with radially-extending coolant flow passages, the blades comprising platform members, there being means for supplying liquid coolant to the underside of each blade platform and thence to the passages in the blade. The assembly shown comprises a series of blades 10 mounted at the periphery of a rotor disc 22, each blade root comprising a series of tines 19 which are received in corresponding grooves 23 formed at the periphery of the rotor disc, the periphery being formed with two annular channels 32, 32a to which coolant liquid is supplied by means not shown and from which it discharges through tubes 34 to the underside of blade platform 26. Each blade comprises a hollow core portion 12 formed with longitudinally-extending grooves 13a in its surface, a skin 11 being disposed over the core so as to define coolant liquid flow passages 13. Each blade comprises a blade platform 26 the sides of which are raised so as to define a pocket 27 in which coolant liquid supplied through the tube 34 collects as indicated, the liquid then passing over a metering surface or weir 29 formed by the sides of the platform. to the coolant flow passages 13 of the blade. The passages discharge into two manifolds 14 at the tip of the blades, the manifolds being interconnected at 15 and the coolant liquid then discharging through a nozzle 16 into an outlet 17 formed in the stator casing 18; the liquid in discharging produces a rotational torque on the rotor. It is arranged that the supply tubes 34 extend to a point "below" the surface 36 of the coolant liquid 27 contained by the platforms 26.
