Abstract

1472557 Longwall mine conveyer systems COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 16 Sept 1975 [19 Nov 1974] 50091/74 Heading B8A Sensor means 14 measures movement of roof supports 1, 2, relative to each other, at least one-of the supports being connected by a jack 8 to a mine face conveyer 6, there being a control system 12 preventing either support being released from engagement between the roof and the floor, if the other support is also released. The relative movement may be given as a visual indication to an operator on a longwall face or may be shown on a control panel in a roadway. The indication may be cumulative from a zero set on an initial base position. The sensor means may be a linear transducer, e.g. a sliding potentiometer; or a step-impulse transducer, e.g. a pawl and ratchet, or reed-switch arrangement. As shown, each support 1, 2, is connected by a respective jack 8 to the conveyer 6. In a modification, the jack 2 of the support 2 may be replaced by a short chain or rope or other lost motion device. Alternatively the means for moving the support 2, may be connected to the support 1, instead of the conveyer.
