Abstract

1472410 A sterile composition for dissipating iodine FLOW PHARMACEUTICALS INC 28 Aug 1975 [28 May 1974] 35594/75 Divided out of 1472408 Heading A5E A sterile aqueous solution suitable for dissipating available iodine contained in an iodophor at a controlled rate, comprises (a) from 0.01%-5% by wt. sorbic acid or a soluble salt thereof; and (b) from 0.01%-5% by wt ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid or a soluble salt thereof. Preferably the solution also contains from 0.1-2% of an ammonium alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a boron oxyacid, a particularly preferred salt is Na borate. The aromatic properties of the solution can be adjusted by the addition of up to 2% by wt of a water soluble alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a mineral acid, suitable salts are NaCl, KCl, CaCl2, NgCl2 and the corresponding phosphate, nitrates and sulphate salts. Used in conjunction with an iodophor solution the solution is suitable for sterilising contact lenses, particularly of the soft type.
