Abstract
1471895 Oxidation catalysts STANDARD OIL CO 3 May 197 [21 May 1973] 19472/74 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] o-Phthalic anhydride is made by contacting a mixture comprising O 2 and o-xylene at 200-600‹C in the presence of a catalyst comprising. Catalysts comprise an inert support of at least 20 Ám coated on its outer surface with a catalytically active material comprising in which A is Fe, Cr, Ni, Co, Ti, Mn, Cu, Ag, Bi, Zn, Mo and/or W, D is B and/or Sb, a is 0-5, b is a positive number up to 10 and the vanadium is less than 10 wt % of the total catalyst. The active material may also comprise an inert diluent such as SiO 2 and TiO 2 . Examples describe the preparation use of W 1À32 Sb 2 B 3 V 12 O x , W 0À6 Sb 2 B 3 V 12 O x , B 3 V 12 O x + TiO 2 , Sb 2 B 3 V 12 O x + TiO 2 and Sb 2 B 3 V 12 O x + (ZrO 2 /CaO or SiO 2 ) on Al 2 O 3 . The active material is prepared in each case by reducing V 2 O 5 with W metal or hydrazine, adding the other oxides to the slurry and drying.
