[Also in Division C2] A catalyst for the production of o-phthalic anhydride by oxidation of o-xylene with air consists of a nonporous carrier in the form of spherical or substantially spherical particles having a diameter from 4 to 12 mm and being coated with 0.02 to 2mm of a composition containing 15 to 40% by weight of vanadium pentoxide and 60 to 85% by weight of titanium dioxide in the form of anatase in such an amount that the vanadium content of the whole catalyst is from 0.05 to 3% by weight. The catalyst may also contain oxides of Mn, Cu, Ce, Ag, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, W or Mo, and the carrier particles may be primed with a layer of an oxide of Ti, Zr, V, Cr, Mo, W or Co prior to coating.
