Abstract

1471870 Tape cassette brake TELEVISION RESEARCH Ltd 24 April 1974 [3 May 1973] 20998/73 Heading B8M A tape cassette 1 comprises a clamping arm 6 pivotable about an axis 8 parallel to the axis of a roll of tape 2, the arm being biased towards a position (shown in dotted lines) in which a surface of a brake shoe 7 which extends transversely from the arm bears on the roll of tape in a direction perpendicular to its axis, an extension piece 16, Fig. 2, being provided which may be fitted over the brake shoe to increase its effective length. As shown the spring 11 is the biasing means which causes the roll of tape to be braked when the cassette is not inserted in a recorder or player. When the cassette is inserted a capstan 15 presses against pinch roll 10 with a force (3 to 6 lbs.) sufficient to rotate arm 6 into the play position shown.
