Abstract

Novel monoazo dyestuffs of the formula (1) <IMAGE> in which M denotes hydrogen or an alkali metal, such as sodium or potassium, X denotes chloroacetyl, one of the two symbols Y denotes hydrogen and the other of the two symbols Y denotes a group of the formula -SO3M and Z denotes alpha -bromoacryloyl or alpha , beta -dibromopropionyl, are prepared by diazotising a compound of the formula (2) <IMAGE> and coupling the diazonium compound thus obtained with a coupling component of the formula (3) <IMAGE> From the monoazo dyestuffs obtained, in which Z denotes alpha , beta -dibromopropionyl, hydrogen bromide can also be removed by reaction with an alkali in order to prepare corresponding dyestuffs in which Z denotes alpha -bromoacryloyl. The dyestuffs are suitable for dyeing or printing nitrogen-containing fibres, such as wool, silk and polyamides, as well as leather. If the dyestuffs are used for dyeing wool, a very high dyestuff fixation can be obtained, the dyed product thus obtained having a very clear colour with outstanding light- and perspiration-fastness, but particularly with outstanding fulling and washing fastness.
