Abstract
1471398 Textured protein filaments UNIVERSITE LAVAL 10 June 1975 [21 June 1974] 24897/75 Heading B5B Filaments are produced from a dispersion of texturizable material by extruding the dispersion under pressure through a spinneret, pumping a continuous body of moving liquid and causing the moving liquid to circulate horizontally in the same direction as the extruded filaments allowing the filaments to be individually surrounded by said liquid with friction immediately upon egress from the spinneret and to be supported and conveyed thereby, coagulating the filaments while they are hydraulically conveyed by the moving liquid and washing. The filaments are preferably formed from protein, material with a low protein content, an alginate low methylated section, carrageenin or carboxymethyl cellulose. The moving liquid may comprise the coagulating bath and the velocity of the moving liquid may be greater or less or the same as that of the extruded filaments. Discontinuous filaments may be formed by increasing the velocity of the moving liquid.
