Abstract

1471283 Dissolving acrylamide polymers in water AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 25 June 1974 [2 July 1973] 28203/74 Heading C3P A method of dissolving aorylamide polymers in water comprises (A) providing a water-in-oil emulsion having dispersed therein a finely divided water-soluble acrylamide polymer of the non-ionic or cationic type and (B) inverting said emulsion in water containing a watersoluble surfactant of the formula wherein n is a number from 9À5 to 15, whereby the acrylamide polymer is released into the water as a solution. The acrylamide polymer may be polyacrylamide, a copolymer of acrylamide with a comonomer such as methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile or styrene, or a copolymer of acrylamide with a cationic monomer such as 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, and may have a molecular weight of from 500,000 to 20 million.
