Abstract

1471185 Crash barrier railings; rail joints CEGEDUR SOC DE TRANSFORMATION DE L'ALUMINIUM PECHINEY 31 May 1974 [1 June 1973] 24298/74 Headings E1B and E1G In a rigid crash barrier railing suitable for bridge parapets and comprising three or more rails 4 bolted to the front flange of I-section posts 1, each post has a base plate 2 anchored by at least two bolts 12 between its flanges and two bolts 11 in front of the flanges, while each rail is of open U section facing the road and comprises inturned arms 15, 16 protruding from a thick base 14 provided with two undercut rear grooves 19, 20 retaining mounting bolts 21, 22. The grooves 19, 20 allow some horizontal sliding of the rail on impact. Rail lengths are connected end to end by fish plate joints, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) incorporating an expansion gap and oval bolt holes. Each post is a tapered casting shaped at its lower end to provide a stress-relieving curved transition 13 between the stem and base.
