1470978 Attaching heels BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 13 Aug 1974 [14 Aug 1973] 38352/73 Heading A3B In a heel pressing means suitable for use in the attachment of sole units to shoe bot-` toms by adhesive means; the pressing means comprises a presser member 5 adapted in operation to press the heel end portion of a sole unit against the bottom of a shoe, a support 13, 15 for the presser member, adjusting means 31, 35 for adjusting the position of the presser member 5 relative to its support to accommodate variations in heels, and resilient means 23-suitably a coil spring-for resiliently supporting the presser member 5 in its adjusted position. The presser member 5 is rotably supported on arms 7, 7 mounted rotably on support pillar 13; further arms 19, 19 are rigidly fixed to a shaft 11-as are arms 7-and may therefor be considered as extensions of arms 7. Two yet further arms 25 are rotably mounted on the shaft 11, inwards of the arms 19 and are adjustable relative to the support 13, 15 by means of crossbar 27, screw thread 31 and hand wheel 35. The arms 19, 19 and 25, 25 are resiliently connected by means wherein a screw member 37 is firmly located at its lower end within a cross-member 39 mounted between the arms 25; the screw member 37 passes through an opening 43 in a cross-member 21 mounted between the arms 19, and a coil spring 23 is located on the member 37 by a bush 45 which is threaded on the member 37 and adjusts the compression of the spring. In operation the presser member 5 is moved into position by the adjusting means 27, 31, 35 and yieldably maintained in position by the spring 23.
