Abstract
1470545 Branching filters EMERSON ELECTRIC CO 17 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 26724/74 Heading H1W [Also in Division H4] A duplexer/diplexer comprises at least two TR channels one of which is coupled to a common waveguide by branch guides which act as a high-pass filter for the signals in that channel and a cut-off filter for the signals in the other channel. In one four-channel arrangement, two groups of two channels utilize first and second frequency bands, the two channels within each group being mutually orthogonally polarized. Thus, the signals in the two channels sharing the higher of the two frequency bands are fed respectively by waveguides 90, 95, Fig. 6, to respective balanced couplers feeding orthogonal signals to common waveguide 20. One of these couplers comprises T-junction 97a, 92a, 92b connected by tapers 120 to 0-db couplers 14, 15 and the other (not completely shown) comprises a similar T-junction connected to 0-db couplers 25, 27. Each coupler comprises a series of branch waveguides 110 extending between series of transverse slots 112, 114 respectively in the feed waveguides and the common waveguides. The branch waveguides 110 are dimensioned beyond cut-off for signals in the pair of channels utilizing the lower frequency band. The latter are fed by respective waveguides 115, 116 to an orthomode junction 40 at the end of the common waveguide 20. The portion of the common guide 20 associated with couplers 14, 15, 25, 27 is mounted between rotational joints so that the polarizations of the two frequency bands may be adjusted with respect to each other. In a modification, these rotational joints are dispensed with and the adjustment effected according to the scheme shown in Fig. 2. These, pairs of channels in respective frequency bands are fed to orthomode joints 65, 71 for transmission through rotationally-adjustable 180 degree plates 61, 60 which, in known fashion, may be used for adjustment of the polarization angle between the two frequency channels.
