1470276 Multiple liquid chromatography SARTORIUS MEMBRANFILTER GmbH 15 April 1975 [17 April 1974] 15434/75 Heading B1H An apparatus for the semi-automatic separation by column chromatography of n sample solutions simultaneously, each of which is separated in chromatography columns into at least two fractions by means of washing and/or buffer solutions, comprises a proportioning pump provided with n-channels each of which is connected upstream to a suction needle and downstream to a column of a group of n chromatography columns, a fraction collector disposed under the group of columns and provided with n collector vessels for each fraction, a carrier arm carrying the n suction needles which is movable into predetermined positions, both in the direction of and at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the suction needles, relative to a supporting surface for receiving vessels for the solutions, a carrier plate on to which carrier racks for the collector vessels can be placed in predetermined positions and which is movable under the group of columns, at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the columns, into predetermined operating positions for the collector vessels, and a timer control device having adjustable timing elements for controlling in a co-ordinated manner, the movements of the carrier arm, the proportioning pump, and the carrier plate. Methods are described of ensuring that the relative movement between suction needles and samples and between columns and receiving vessels is correctly indexed. The preferred pump is a hose pump Reference is made to analysing medicinal solutions for thyroid hormone.
