Abstract
146,998. Hemphill Co., (Assignees of Bosworth, G. P.). Nov. 15, 1918, [Convention date]. Knitting gloves. A glove blank consists of a single longitudinal strip with the digit strips fashioned at the tips, and is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 2. The blank is preferably formed on a circular knitting-machine, and the knitting commencing at the line 1, 2 is carried along the front of the wrist portion, needles being thrown into or out of operation where necessary to fashion the wrist. A flat selvedgad strip is formed until the line 3, 4 is reached, whereupon all the needles are elevated out of action, and the needles for the thumb strip lowered to position. After the thumb strip is knitted the palm portion is knitted, followed by the tinger strips in saccession. The digit strips are fashioned by throwing- intb or out of operation the requaite number of needles, and the fashioning may be symmetrical or as shown in Fig. 9, with one side 45 longer than the other 44. The front and back of the digit strips may be knitted together at the tapered portions, and at points 47, 47<1>, Fig. 10. Uniting the mating part of the strip at 47, 47<1> aids the subsequent seaming operation. Fashioning may also take place at the base 50 of the strips, and gussets may be made with additional needles from the adjacent finger strip. Specification 161,267 is referred to.
