Abstract

1469706 Martensitic stainless steel ARMCO STEEL CORP 17 April 1974 [25 April 1973] 16785/74 Heading C7A A heat hardened stainless steel article has a composition:- having Ti rich carbides uniformly dispersed throughout a martensitic matrix. The steel may be prepared by remelting using a slag, protective atmosphere or vacuum technique, casting, hot and cold working, tempering, heat-treating at 870‹ to 1235‹C, cooling at a rate at least equivalent to that of cooling in still air e.g. using a moving gas stream or oil quench and tempering or stress relieving. The steel may be used in corrosive and abrasive environments e.g. in bearings, ball joints, tyre studs, cutlery, mining and ore processing machinery.
