Abstract

1469488 Sensing granular flow F A CHANDLER and T H BARNES 29 April 1975 [4 May 1974] 19683/74 Heading G1G [Also in Division H4] The flow of grain, e.g. in an elevator or conveyer, is detected by means of the acoustic signal produced when the grains impinge on a probe 6. The probe is coupled to a microphone 5 which converts the acoustic signal to an electrical output. This output is amplified and fed to a monitoring oscilloscope; also to a diode pump circuit which turns on a transistor switch when a threshold flow rate is exceeded. The switch actuates a timer or visual indicator. The microphone mounting includes cases 1, 3 and vibration-absorbent material 2, 4.
