Abstract
1469206 Epoxy resin esters; curable compositions DOW CHEMICAL CO 21 Oct 1975 43223/75 Headings C3B and C3P Curable resin compositions comprise the reaction product of substantially equivalent amounts of a polyepoxide and a dicarboxylic acid (e.g. phthalic) ester of a (meth)acrylate in which R is H or Me; R<SP>1</SP> is C 2-4 alkylene; R<SP>2</SP> is H, Me or Et; and n has an average value 3-6. I may be prepared by reacting an alkylene oxide with a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, a typical example being prepared from 1 mole of hydroxyethyl acrylate and 3 moles of propylene oxide. A half ester is then prepared with phthalic acid and reacted with a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. Curable compositions may additionally comprise an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g. hydroxypropyl or acetoxypropyl acrylate. The compositions may be cured by heat or U.V. radiation. Uses.-Coating metals, plastics or paper.
