Abstract

1468922 Salts of half esters of sulphosuccinic acid and fatty acid monoethanolamides AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 1 May 1974 [17 May 1973] 19164/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3C Compounds, suitable as foaming agents for polymer latices, have the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is the hydrocarbon moiety of a fatty acid having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms, and M is an ammonium or alkali metal cation. The compounds are made by (a) reacting equimolar proportions of a fatty acid containing 12-22 carbon atoms with monoethanolamine to give a hydroxyethyl substituted fatty acid amide, (b) esterifying the resulting hydroxyethyl amide with an equimolar quantity of maleic anhydride to provide a half acid ester of maleic acid and (c) reacting the half ester with ammonium or an alkali metal sulphite to provide the water-soluble sulphosuccinate salt.
