Abstract

1468773 Tertiary amines RHONE POULENC INDUSTRIES 3 July 1975 [4 July 1974] 28142/75 Addition to 1408359 Heading C2C A tertiary amine is made by reacting an olefin, carbon monoxide, hydrogen and a primary amine in the presence of a complex of Rh, Ir, Pt, Pd, Ru, Os, Fe, Co or Ni and either a phosphite or a ligand in which the donor atom is oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur. Reaction is effected for 10 minutes to 10 hours at a temperature of 60-250‹ C. and at a partial pressure of hydrogen and carbon monoxide each of 10 to 120 bars. Examples describe the production of N,N-diheptyl methylamine and N,N-di-(C 16-19 ) alkyl methylamine.
