Abstract
1,194,106. Process for the production of pyrrolidones. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SOHEIDEANSTALT. 11 Sept., 1968 [16 Sept., 1967], No. 43192/68. Heading C2C. Pyrrolidones are obtained from nitrile compounds of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> which may be the same or different, are hydrogen or an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic radical and R<SP>3</SP> is an aliphatic radical, by passing the nitrile in gaseous form together with hydrogen at 80-300‹ C. over a fixed bed carrier catalyst comprising a Raney metal, a metal selected from cobalt, nickel, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium or platinum or a mixed catalyst thereof with aluminium and/or a solid reaction product of an oxide of a metal selected from cobalt, nickel, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and platinum or copper oxide with chromium oxide, the molar ratio of nitrile compound to hydrogen being from 1 : 50 to 1 : 500. Specified products are 3-methyl-2- pyrrolidone and 4-methyl- and 4-phenyl-2- pyrrolidone.
