Abstract
146,852. Riedinger Ballonfabrik Augsburg Akt.-Ges., A. June 22, 1918, [Convention date]. Captive balloons; cars.-The anchoring cable P<1>, and the car P<2> of a captive balloon are connected to the envelope through systems of looped cords with interposed rollers r or similar members so that, for all ordinary attitudes of the balloon, the forces at P<1> and P<2> pass approximately through the same points A, K on the longitudinal axis of the balloon. The rigging is designed so that, when the balloon is being hauled in and. the nose consequently dips, the forces at P<1> and P<2> are displaced sufficiently to the rear to ensure the restoration of the balloon to its normal position against the friction of the rollers r when the winding stops. To limit the backward tilting of the balloon when the force at P<2> is increased relatively to the force at P<1> owing to the presence of an additional observer in the car or to loss of gas in the envelope, cords z are provided which, as they become taut, cause the resultant forces to pass ahead of the points A, K.
