Abstract
1468071 Low calorie sugar substitute GENERAL FOODS CORP 15 July 1974 [21 Nov 1973 (2)] 31314/74 Heading A2B A low calorie sweetening composition which is low in hygroscopicity, devoid of after taste and readily soluble comprises a dipeptide sweetener and an edible, bland, low calorie polysaccharide in a weight ratio of dipeptide: polysaccharide of 1:19 to 3:7. Preferred dipeptide is L-aspartyl-L-phenyl alanine methyl ester and preferred polysaccharides are polymaltose, polymerised dextrins and polyglucose made by heating an aqueous solution of the maltose, dextrin or glucose, adding phosphoric acid to catalyse the polymerization and bring the pH to 1.8 to 2.4, vacuum drying the syrup thus formed and vacuum heating to obtain a polymer residue which may be neutralized and ultrafiltered prior to mixing with the dipeptide.
