Abstract
1467971 Thermal jacking means SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AB 8 March 1974 10629/74 Heading B8J An elongate expansion member 14, Fig. 1, is secured in an upright position to a plate 12 and closely controlled heat applied intermediate its ends by an electric current passing through a resistance coil 16 and rheostat 22, the resulting expansion raising a load (not shown) on a head member 24. The member 14 may be of steel or ceramic. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the resistance coil 16 is replaced by an induction coil (34). In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the member 14 has an elongated cavity (20) and a heating element (36) is inserted therein, the member 14 being surrounded by a heatinsulating layer (40). Fig. 5 shows an embodiment wherein the heat expansion of member 52 is used in conjunction with fixed abutments 56, 62 and a pair of wedges 58A, 58B to raise a load on the surface 60.
