Abstract
1467961 Tubular heat exchangers; maintaining temperature in pipe-lines THERMON MFG CO 9 April 1974 [15 June 1973] 15746/74 Headings F4S and F4U [Also in Division H5] A heat transfer assembly adapted to be mounted on a pipe P carrying a liquid or other material which is to be heated, cooled or maintained in a heated condition, comprises a solid, flexible pre-shaped elongated strip H of heat transfer material, a heat transfer element, a channel member C, and clamping members (M, Fig. 2, not shown) for securing the assembly on the pipe P. The heat transfer material, which is either extruded or moulded, conforms to the cavity or recess 10 formed in the channel member C and to the portion 11 of the pipe P covered by the channel member C. The heat transfer element may be an electrical resistance heating wire 15, Fig. 3, or a fluid-carrying conduit E-1, Fig. 4. Preferably the strip H is formed of a material containing a thermoplastic binder (10-80% by wt.) and Graphite (20- 90% by wt.). The thermoplastic binder may comprise one or more of the following: butyl rubber, silicon rubber, nitrile, polyurethane, acrylic resins, polyamides, polyamide copolymers, fluoroplastics, polyethylenes and polysulphidea. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,108,673.
