1467605 Seals FLOW RESEARCH Inc 16 June 1975 25589/75 Heading F2B In sealing plunger 24 of, e.g. a high pressure intensifier, an elastomeric O ring 44 is maintained under axial compression, even at low fluid pressures, to exert radial pressure between surfaces 56 and 68 and thus prevent low pressure leakage at the interface underlying position 64 of ring 40. Ring 40 is of graphite or metal filled P.T.F.E. Ring 38 is of less yieldable polycarbonate. Ring 46 is of steel and ring 36 of Cu, Be alloy, so that it does not gall the surface 68.
