Abstract

1467589 Monoazo pigments from barbituric acid and its derivatives CIBA GEIGY AG 15 Sept 1975 [16 Sept 1974] 37773/75 Heading C4P [Also in Division C2] Monazo pigments of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups, or optionally substituted aryl radicals, R 3 is C 1 -C 4 alkyl optionally substituted by halogen, alkoxy groups containing 1-4 C atoms, or optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy or arylmercapto groups, or is an optionally substituted aryl or heterocyclic radical, X is O or an imino group, Y is O or S or an imino group and X 1 and Y 1 are each H or halogen, alkyl or alkoxy containing 1-4 C atoms or a nitro, cyano or trifluoro methyl group; X 1 and Y 1 must not both be H atoms if R 3 is an unsubstituted alkyl group, and wherein the acylamino group is in the m- or p-position to the azo group, may be prepared by diazotizing the appropriate amine and then coupling. The resulting pigments may be after-treated by heating in an organic solvent (DMF and nitrobenzene in Examples). The pigments may be used in printing inks for letterpress, gravure, offset and flexographic printing and for colouring PVC and polyesters.
