Abstract

1467431 Circuits for temperature compensation of resistors INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 21 May 1974 [7 March 1973 14 Aug 1973] 10958/73 and 38424/73 Heading H3 Changes in voltage across a resistor R A with temperature are corrected by connecting the resistor in the negative feedback path of an amplifier and connecting the output of the amplifier across a potentiometer including a thermistor which varies in temperature with the resistor. In Fig. 1 the potentiometer comprises fixed resistors 14, 18 and a thermistor 16. The resistor 14 may be omitted (Fig. 2, not shown) or the thermistor shunted by a variable setting-up resistor (24, Fig. 4a, not shown). In the latter arrangement the output may be taken from the input end of the thermistor or from the slider of a potentiometer connected in parallel with the thermistor (Figs. 4b, 4 and 4c, not shown). In a further embodiment, the output circuit of the amplifier comprises a bridge network formed by potentiometer (R X , B Y , Fig. 5, not shown) and two resistors (14, 18) with the thermistor (16) connected between the slider of the potentiometer and the common point (20) of the resistors (14, 18) from which the output is taken. The resistor 20 and thermistor 16 may be mounted in adjacent apertures in a metal block (Fig. 3, not shown).
