Abstract

1467398 Electro medical apparatus SONYTHERAPY INSTITUTE INC 4 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 15002/74 Heading A5R A method of applying stimulating continuous or pulsating alternating currents to the scalp comprises positioning a pair of electrodes in spaced relation on the scalp, passing electric current of 200 to 3000 cycles/sec. frequency between the electrodes and massaging the scalp using at least one of the electrodes. Waveform generators 60-68 each having a different frequency within the range and constructed as shown in Figure 7 (not shown) are connected selectively or in combination through a variable power amplifier and a switch or switches 80-88 with active and ground electrodes 71, 72. The generators produce waves of triangular, saw tooth, sine or square form and provide either a continuous output current or output pulses. Mains power supplied to a power supply circuit, Figure 9 (not shown) provides a 40 volt d.c. supply for the amplifier and a regulated 10 volt d.c. supply for the oscillators. The active and ground electrodes may each comprise an insulated conductor 143, Fig. 10, stripped of insulation at one end 147, which is encased in a conductive mesh material 148, which may be stainless steel, the mesh material being wrapped in cotton batting 149 and cloth strips 150. The electrodes are used with disinfectant solution, in which they are stored, absorbed in the batting 149 and cloth 150. Alternatively, each electrode may comprise a conducting comb having a tang (162), Figure 10 (not shown) the tangs being insulated from each other by a strip (163) and retained in a handle (164).
