Abstract

1467368 Fire control installation COMPAGNIE CENTRALE SICLI 3 Sept 1974 [7 Sept 1973] 38400/74 Heading A5A An automatic fire-control installation comprises an extinguishant reservoir 1, a main extinguishant delivery pipe 9 feeding a net work of pipes 6, detection and spray heads 7 containing fusible elements which in fire conditions melt and allow liquid to pass through, an aqueous liquid container 8, a vacuum operated release system 3 controlling, via mechanism 4, the valve on a cylinder 5 which contains propellant gas and a rupturable diaphragm 2 in pipe 9, wherein in the non-fire state the aqueous liquid fills tubes 6, 9 and container 8 but on melting of the elements the liquid flows out of heads 7 by gravity causing a reduced pressure at 3 which in response thereto opens cylinder 5, the propellant gas entering container 1 then forcing out the extinguishant through 2 (which ruptures under the pressure) and thence to heads 7. The container 8 communicates with the atmosphere .and the surface of the liquid therein is covered with a layer of oil to inhibit evaporation. If the fusible elements in 7 do not melt quickly enough a pressure is built up in pipes 6 and 9 said pressure being detected and the cylinder 5 opened by an auxiliary jack 10 (Fig. 3 not shown). The aqueous liquid is preferably a premix of water and an anti-freeze e.g. glycol.
