Abstract

1467089 Extruding STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 15 May 1975 20588/75 Heading B3P An extrusion apparatus comprises a roller 1 having a circumferential groove 2, a fixed shoe 3 abutting the roller 1 so as to form with the groove 2 an elongate aperture 5 open at one end and closed at its other end by an extrusion die 4, means for feeding material to be extruded 6 into the aperture 5 and means 7 for varying the arc of contact α of the material 6 in the groove 2. The length of the arc of contact α of the material 6 in the groove 2 is controlled by one or more rollers 7 which are movable towards and away from the roller 1 and which increase the frictional forces between the material 6 and roller 1 thereby increasing the extrusion pressure The extrudate 6A may be a wire.
