Abstract

1466865 Dyeing modacrylic fibres ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 28 Feb 1974 [6 March 1973] 10793/73 Heading D1B Modacrylic fibres which are copolymers of 35% to 85% by weight of acrylonitrile with vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl fluoride, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl pyridine, vinylimidazole, vinyl alcohol, acrylic or methacrylic acid esters, 2-halo- or 2-alkoxysubstituted acrylonitriles or acrylic acid amides or with mixtures thereof, are dyed with cationic dyes in presence of a compound of formula R(CH 2 ) n O(CH 2 ) m CN in which R is an optionally substituted phenyl group, a linear or branched chain optionally substituted C 3 to C 30 alkyl group or an optionally substituted cycloaliphatic group, n and m are the same or different n being 0 to 2 and m being 1 to 3. Preferably dyeing is effected at 55 to 75‹C using benzyloxypropionitrile or cyclohexyloxypropionitrile in the presence of an emulsifying agent e.g. polyethoxylated fatty acid or polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene block copolymer optionally in the presence of an organic solvent e.g. isopropanol.
