1466851 Selective electro-chemical etching EDWARD PRYOR & SON Ltd 7 May 1974 [17 May 1973] 23598/73 Heading C7B A method of electro-chemical etching includes the steps of making a stencil apertured to define the mark desired, the apertures having side walls which, in a plane transverse to the direction in which they extend, diverge from the underside at 10-70 degrees, placing the underside in contact with a metallic surface, placing a felt pad 16 moistened with electrolyte over the stencil, compressing the pad by a graphite pressure plate 18 and applying an electric current by means of the pressure plate through the electrolyte. The stencil may be of synthetic plastics, e.g. polyester. For application to a curved surface, the stencil and pressure plate may be correspondingly curved Fig. 5, (not shown).
