Abstract

1466190 Heat-sealable compositions E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 9 May 1974 20573/74 Heading C3P Heat-sealable compositions comprise (1) 40 to 80 weight per cent of a crystalline copolymer of ethylene with 5 to 15 weight per cent of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid, said acid being free from neutralizing metal ions, (2) 20 to 45 weight per cent of an amorphous elastomeric copolymer of ethylene, 20 to 60 weight per cent of propylene and up to 10 weight per cent of a non-conjugated diene, (3) up to 20 weight per cent of filler and (4) up to 20 weight per cent of crystalline polyethylene. The filler may be carbon black, and the compositions may also contain antiblocking agents (silica) and slip agents (stearamide). The compositions may be made into films for lining ponds and ditches, which films may be heat-sealed in situ. Examples describe compositions comprising copolymers of ethylene with acrylic or methacrylic acid; copolymers of ethylene and propylene with 1,4- hexadiene or ethylidene norbornene; and polyethylene and/or carbon black.
