Abstract

1465762 Polymerisation apparatus MONSANTO CO 8 March 1974 [9 March 1973 (2)] 21164/76 Divided out of 1465761 Heading B1X A continuous mass polymerisation apparatus 10 comprises a vertically oriented generally cylindrical chamber 11 formed by a casing 12 provided with terminal closures 13 and having a monomer input means 4 near its upper end and a polymeric product output means 9 near its lower end; a plurality of cooling means 15, 16 within the chamber for cooling at least the lower portion of the chamber; a rotatable member positioned along the vertical axis of the chamber and comprising a centre shaft 17 having a plurality of circular horizontally oriented disk members 20 positioned in vertically spaced relationship; attached to each of the disk members as spaced intervals around the circumference of each disk, a plurality of radially extending flat blade members 21, the blade members attached to the lowermost disk member being vertically oriented with respect to their flat surfaces and all the blade members attached to the remaining disk members having their flat surfaces oriented at an angle to the plane of the horizontal disk members; and driving means 18 to provide rotation of the rotatable member.
