Straight bars arranged for torsion.-Torsional springs are mounted in tubes filled with packing pieces along the whole length of the tube, one end of 'the spring being fixed to the tube while the other end is free. The spring may be variously employed, such as for a spring mounting for the wheels of a vehicle or a yielding connexion in a rotary shaft coupling. Fig. 1 shows a view of a tube B enclosing a spring A, which is secured to the tube at the end D, and is surrounded by packing pieces C throughout its length. The packing pieces may be whole lengths or built up of short lengths and held together by clips. A lever E is connected to the free end of the spring. The spring may be star shaped instead of flat strip.
