Abstract

1465652 Carbocyclic-fused pyridines JOHN WYETH & BRO Ltd 15 April 1975 [19 April 1974] 17223/74 Addition to 1432378 Heading C2C Amides (I) are prepared from the esters (II) by reaction with R<SP>9</SP>CONHR<SP>3</SP> in presence of sodamide. In these formulµ, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and m are each as defined in Specification 1,432,378 (except that if R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>2</SP> represents -CH 2 (CH 2 ) n CH 2 - then m may or may not be the same as n), R<SP>5</SP> is alkyl, R<SP>9</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl and R<SP>3</SP> is H or alkyl. In a modification, (I) (R<SP>3</SP>=H) is prepared by reacting (II) with sodamide, preferably in the presence of liquid NH 3 .
